October is The Month for Swanky Wine Events in San Francisco

Well, I never. Who knew there were so many high-priced, super-swanky wine events in San Francisco. Maybe I was just not paying attention in the past, or maybe because I can’t afford most of them they never crossed my radar. However, if you love wine and do have some extra cash lying around, October is the month to spend it in San Francisco. This month we are playing host to the following events which range in price from $45 to $5000 per person. If anyone wants to buy me tickets to one of these things, just let me know.

Wine and Food First Annual Top 100 Tasting

WEDNESDAY, 10/13 6:00 PM
Wine & Spirits magazine is hosting a new event this year called the “Top 100” Tasting in the Green Room at the War Memorial Auditorium where they plan to showcase wines from the vintners named Wineries of The Year by their magazine as well as local artisanal food producers and local chefs. Tickets are available for sale online. $50 per person.

Edward Roberts International Fine Wine Auction and Bordeaux Tasting Dinner

FRIDAY, 10/15 6:30 PM
1982 Bordeaux tasting dinner. This fine wine auction house presents a dinner centered around 1982 Bordeaux (widely regarded to be the best year in…well….forever). They don’t tell you who’s cooking the food or what it will be like, but, c’mon, it’s not like you’re going for the food. Wines will be poured from imperials (the really really large bottles that are about 4 feet tall) which means they will be in really great shape. Limited to 95 people. $425 per person.

SATURDAY, 10/16 10:00 AM –
A pre-auction tasting of vintage and contemporary Bordeaux wines is followed by a free live auction of many of the same bottles (here’s the list). Tasting is $45 per person, auction is free.

More info on both of these events from Edward Roberts.

Wine Commune Taste For Life Benefit Dinner

SATURDAY, 10/16, 6:00 PM
WineCommune hosts a benefit dinner at the City Club for the American Diabetes Foundation with a session of private wine tasting hosted by a variety of wine magazine editors and professional sommeliers followed by a sit down dinner. Live and Silent auctions and live big-band music round out the evening. Pricing is dependant on which private tasting you attend. $595 to $4,600 per person. More info.

Robert M. Parker, Jr. 25th Anniversary Celebration
The big critic himself, or rather, his wine magazine is turning 25 this year, and the wine world is celebrating with a fete that you’ll be charged $5 just to think about. Luckily all the proceeds from this lavish affair will go to an educational endowment, so we don’t need to scoff at it, just close our mouths to avoid drooling at the thought of participating.

FRIDAY 10/22:
11:00 AM: 100 Vintners from Around The World Tasting, led by Robert Parker at the CIA in St. Helena. $250 per person.

1:30 PM: Guided Syrah Tasting with Robert Parker. Limit 125 people. $500 per person.

11:00 AM: “Only 100” a guided tasting with Robert Parker of wines rated a perfect 100 by him with lunch included (thank goodness)in the Pacific Heights, San Francisco home of Ann and Gordon Getty. Limit 60 people. $2,000 per person.

6:30 PM: Grand Banquet at the Legion of Honor with live auction and celebrity guest (in addition to Mr. Parker). $1,500 per person.

For reservations please contact Nichelle Lyons at 415-775-0698

Barolo Vertical Dinner at Incanto

MONDAY, 10/25 7:00 PM
Incanto Restaurant, home of the best Italian wine list in San Francisco, in my opinion, is hosting a dinner that provides the rare opportunity to taste a vertical of Borgogno Riserva Barolos from 1961, 1967, 1974, and 1982. The food aint bad either. $210 per person all inclusive. More info.

Cult Wines Classic of San Francisco

FRIDAY 10/29 6:30 PM
Dinner, wine tasting and luxury live auction at the Ritz Carleton Hotel in San Francisco. One of the few places it is possible to taste some of these wines without buying a (sometimes $1000 plus) bottle. The 5 course meal is provided by Jean-Pierre Dubray and Brad Bennick of the Ritz. $425 per person.
