Perhaps you may have heard that French wine sales are down? So much that they may even be letting winemakers advertise what their wines taste like now (gasp!). But that doesn’t help them with an even more immediate problem: too much wine on their hands that is clearly not selling. So what to do? Well, how about turn it into gasoline? Under a current proposal, French vintners want to distill hundreds of millions of bottles of AOC wine into high grade alcohol which could be used for many industrial applications, including fuel. This isn’t just crap wine, either, it’s appellation designated stuff.
If only they’d learn how to market it better, average Americans might keep them from such predicaments. Until then, they may just have to be content knowing even their cars drink red wine.
