Episode 347 of I’ll Drink to That! was released recently. It features Chris Desor of Verity Wine Partners, a wine distributor operating in New York and New Jersey.
Chris Desor himself belongs to that middle generation sandwiched between the Baby Boomer wine fans attracted to points and the Millennials looking for something new. Perhaps it is no surprise then that he tries to cater to both demographics inside a distribution business model built on being in the middle: a medium sized wholesale wine book that tries to provide something for everyone. Chris does a lot of explaining in this interview about why that kind of business is appealing to him, a model which he admits has become something of a rarity in a distribution world increasingly divided between the big players and the small, focused portfolios. As Chris describes what he predicts for the business as a whole, he also lays out the terrain in a way that anyone could understand. If you are looking for someone that can pull back the curtain and show you the behind-the-scenes of wholesale in the middle of a 3-tiered system, then you would definitely want to listen to what Chris has to say.  This is an insider’s look at a rarely explained world.
