Long before there was a natural wine trend or the term zero-zero there was a leather-jacket-clad winemaker with a shaved head and biker chains making wine with only the addition of loud music in the cellar. Ales Kristancic’s @moviawines were and are stellar examples of visionary and uncompromising winemaking. And they happen to age beautifully as this example given to me by a dear friend demonstrates. This wine is an unusual blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Why? Because screw you it tastes good, that’s why. Wonderfully medium bodied with aromas of leather, forest floor, herbs and dried flowers. Flavors of dried cranberries, sour cherry, smoked meat and citrus peel dusted in earth.

Bubbly, light, and dark. Three wines to share with friends over a nice dinner and discussion of books. The @cravenwines Cinsault was one of the 12 precious bottles I was able to bring back with me from South Africa late last year. They all showed beautifully, the @champagnepaullaunois was its usual, gorgeous precise self, the Craven crunchy and bright. And the 2014 @aperturecellars Cabernet aging into its rich sumptuousness. A great trio of wines.
