Too lazy to drive to Napa? Not sure you like the whole “tasting room” vibe? Would you rather sip wine with lots of attractive younger people under mood lighting instead of with tourists? On October 18th Napa is coming to San Francisco in a big way. For one night only, nearly sixty Napa wineries are taking over the interior design mecca known as LIMN and pouring their stuff while DJs spin tunes and hot waitresses wander around with hors d’oeuvres on trays.

To my knowledge this represents two major firsts for the Napa Valley Vintners association, who is sponsoring the event. It is the first time they have specifically held an event targeting a younger wine drinking audience, and this is the first time they have convinced such a large number of their member wineries to do a collective tasting in Northern California that is outside the Napa Valley (they occasionally truck everyone over to the East Coast for this sort of thing). The only other Bay Area event that offers such a breadth of Napa wines for tasting is Auction Napa Valley (or perhaps the Family Winemakers tasting, where many Napa wineries also participate), at least as far as I know.

Regardless, this is a pretty rare opportunity to taste hundreds of current releases from Napa with very little effort should you live in the city or in the East Bay. And at $25 per ticket, it’s not that expensive either, especially considering that many of the wines on offer are sixty to eighty dollars per bottle.

If you’re interested in Napa wines and looking for a different way to go about tasting some, this might just be the event for you.
