Great wine is meant to be shared. There’s nothing like sitting down to a fabulous meal accompanied by excellent wines and good company. That’s why I’ve decided to invite you over for dinner.
It’s not a big thing, just an intimate dinner for 18 folks with yours truly as the sommelier and host at a cute little restaurant in my neighborhood here in San Francisco. I’ll be pouring wines from four of my favorite Pinot Noir producers in California, who represent where I believe California Pinot Noir is headed.
Along with these four pinots, you get a five course meal, and a nice evening for $100 per person on Friday, August 2nd. Tickets can be purchased below.
How did this come about? I became friends recently with Mutsumi Takehara, the superstar pastry chef behind Sandbox Bakery, which is the best kept secret of my neighborhood Bernal Heights. Best chocolate croissant in the city, in my humble opinion. Takehara, who rose to fame cooking with Charles Phan at the Slanted Door, opened 903 Restaurant a couple of doors down from Sandbox, and it has quickly become a local favorite take-out lunch spot.
This little restaurant is a bit too small to offer a sit down dinner service, so Takehara decided to explore hosting events at which she could flex her muscles a little more as a chef, and we came up with the idea of doing some wine events, of which this is the second event. The first sold out in 36 hours.
I’m excited to showcase the wines of Peay Vineyards, Kutch, Red Car, and Chanin along with some fantastic food. The planned menu for the evening is as follows:
Farro Salad with Mint and Kaffer Lime
Mary’s Organic Five Spice Roast Duck and Bing Cherries
Niman Ranch Pork Loin with Sautéed Mushrooms
Pinot Noir Poached Peach with Thai Basil Parfait
I’m shooting for an event that hovers between a white tablecloth dinner and a dinner party in the home of a friend. The evening will consist of a formal, sit-down dinner but with little pretense. I’ll tell stories about the wines, answer questions, and generally facilitate the evening.
We’re offering two seatings for 18 people each. One on the early side at 5:30, the other at 8:00.
I hope you’ll consider joining me for what will be a fantastic night of food, Pinot Noir, and friends. More details can be found on the ticketing web site.
