Episode 314 of I’ll Drink to That! has been released and it features CP Lin of Erewhon, a New Zealand winery.
CP Lin remembers during his first class at winemaking school that he was asked by the teacher why he had come. When he responded that it was because he wanted to make great wine, the other students in the room laughed at him. But CP continued in his resolve and has now been making wine commercially for almost 2 decades. “I never looked back, basically.” That might seem like a standard line from anyone else, but with CP there is a decided resonance to that statement because CP has been blind for almost his entire life. He has literally never seen the difference between glasses of red and white wine. It was unlikely that we would become one of the most well known winemakers in New Zealand, but that was indeed what ended up happening. That he made wine at all seems like a triumph, but here is someone who has also worked on multiple continents exploring the diverse world of wine through taste and touch. And overcome several stumbling blocks along the way. At the same time, he believes he has been lucky. Hit play on episode 314 to hear him explain why.
This episode features a Warm Up from Erin on New Zealand’s South Island.
