I’ll Drink to That: Sommelier Larry Stone of Lingua Franca

Episode 407 of I’ll Drink to That! was released recently, and it features sommelier Larry Stone of the Lingua Franca winery and LS Vineyards, both in Oregon.

This is a return to I’ll Drink to That! for Larry Stone, who appeared in episode 172 back in 2014. That episode focused more on Larry’s sommelier career, while this new interview covers his winemaking and work for wineries, which is diverse. Larry has managed wineries in both Napa and in the Willamette Valley, and has been responsible for an array of wines that covers the Bordeaux grape varieties, as well as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. What has he learned along the way? As you might imagine, those different kinds of wines imply all sorts of different preferred growing conditions and winemaking approach. Fortunately, Larry is very good at expounding on those differences, and it is clear that his career working with the public as a sommelier has helped him in his ability to make arcane winemaking concepts easy to understand and communicate. Plus there are the stories! Larry has plenty of great stories from back in the day (and also from today!), and he shares them readily in this interview. Curious what Gregory Peck used to like to drink, or how Dominique Lafon’s father used to make wine? Larry knows the answer, and if you listen to this interview, so can you.
