A nearly full moon rises over vineyards in the Happy Canyon AVA of Santa Barbara County. Happy Canyon was established as an AVA in 2009, and is distinguished from its surrounding wine growing areas by the Santa Ynez Mountains, which unusually run east-west, creating a warmer pocket on the normally chilly Santa Barbara Coast that can ripen Bordeaux grape varieties.
