Fog hangs heavy across the Salinas Valley, just above the tops of the vineyards of the Santa Lucia Highlands, which rise up the alluvial hillsides of the Santa Lucia Mountains. Today, amidst yet another wave of rainfall, the Salinas River is expected to potentially burst its banks, temporarily turning the entire Monterey Peninsula into an island.
