She’s been called the world’s most respected wine critic. She’s the author of not one, but three of the wine world’s most important reference books. She’s an Officer of the British Empire and advises the British Royal Family on their wine cellar. And she’s one of the few mononymous people in wine. To most, she’s just Jancis: a towering figure in the world of wine that needs little introduction. To me, she’s a boss, collaborator, and friend.
And on October 30th, she’s inviting you to have dinner with her in San Francisco.
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of her website, JancisRobinson.Com, she’s buying out The Morris in San Francisco, and hosting a dinner for 40 in conjunction with sommelier and restaurateur Paul Einbund and his chef Gavin Schmidt.
Jancis is bringing along some top English sparkling wines to share, including:
Hundred Hills 2019 Hillside No.3
Domaine Hugo 2020 Brut Nature Single Vineyard
Wiston Estate 2018 Blanc de Noirs
Hattington Valley 2014 Blanc de Blancs
Following the tasting of these wines, a three-course dinner will be served with three wines for each course and a special wine for dessert:
First Course: Chardonnay
Simpsons, Q Class Chardonnay 2020 England, Four Magnums
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey 2020 Chassagne Montrachet Cailleret 1er Cru
Kistler 2015 Sonoma Valley Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay
Second Course: Pinot Noir
Danbury Ridge 2022 Estate Pinot Noir
Roumier 2022 Chambolle-Musigny
Rhys Vineyards 2018 Alpine Hillside Pinot Noir
Third Course: Cabernet Family
Cullen 2019 Margaret River Diana Madeline
Spottswoode 2018 Napa Valley Estate Cabernet
Cheval Blanc 2000 St-Emilion Premier Grand Cru
Dessert
Château Yquem 1975 Sauternes
Needless to say, no one will go thirsty that evening, and if you want to order a Chartreuse slushy at any point in the evening, I’m sure someone will take care of you (IYKYK).
There will be plenty of opportunities to chat with Jancis throughout the intimate affair. I will also be in attendance, along with my fellow JancisRobinson.Com colleagues Samantha Cole-Johnson and Joshua Greene. We’d love to hang out with you.
Tickets are $1500 per person, $2750 for couples, and should be purchased in advance here. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Gerard Basset Foundation.
