When you’re 125 years old, you probably don’t really care what your clusters look like. This ancient vine from Ridge’s Lytton Springs Estate is in the process of creating a few monster bunches of grapes that, at the moment of this photo (taken in early August), seem to come in every shape and color. I’m not entirely sure what grape variety this is, but I’m gonna guess Zinfandel. In another month or two, these grapes will all be some shade of dark purple, but for now, there’s a lot of heterogeneity going on here.
