September is the month of wine events for some reason. You would think that the promotion and marketing people would let the weary winemakers get through harvest and crush, but I guess there’s no rest for the wicked. You’ll see a lot of event postings here on Vinography in the next week or two, starting with this one for Atlanta’s big wine and food expo, known as Wine South.

I’ve never been to this event, but having looked through the web site, it looks like a real winner, especially considering that barring a few decent wine shops and a couple of stellar lists in some Atlanta restaurants, there isn’t exactly a surfeit of good wine in the state of Georgia. While this event doesn’t offer a really fantastic list of producers, it still seems like it might be worth going to for wine lovers in the South. So if you’re in that region of the country and you’re interested in attending the sort of tasting event that you see me writing about here on Vinography every couple of months, buy your tickets now.

The event appears to include over 600 wines from various producers ranging from awful to decent anyone attending would do well to hit Castello Banfi, Barossa Valley Estate, Canyon Road Winery, Cecchi, Col d’Orcia, Concha Y Toro, Estancia, Franciscan, Huia, Michael David, New Castle Imports, and Ravenswood before trying any of the others.

It looks like there’s also going to be a lot of food there, but I don’t see any of Atlanta’s top restaurants on the bill, so I can’t provide any guidance.
